Reasons Beginner Photographer Should Attend the Equine Photography Summer Camp

This year I am hosting the 10th Annual Equine Photography Summer Camp which is a retreat for horse-loving photographers or any skill level to come together and let out creative brains run wild for a weekend but I truly believe it is a great retreat for new photographers and here is why…

1.  SAFE PLACE TO TRY NEW THINGS + MAKE MISTAKES.

Without pressure of pleasing a client, the photo sessions at Summer Camp make for a great place to try out different poses, try different camera settings and angles, and experiment with your process. The retreat's goal is to foster growth and because the we limit attendance to only 5 people there is plenty of time to be hands on with the models, ask questions, and let your creativity run wild.

2.  ANSWERS TO THE "DUMB" QUESTIONS.

Summer Camp provides you access to photographers that have been in the industry well over a decade that will provide you with honest answers to any questions you may be too scared to ask elsewhere. Whether your questions are about running a profitable business or how to achieve a certain editing style we can help or direct you to more resources if we can't.

3.  CURRATE A DIVERSE + REALISTIC PORTFOLIO.

At Summer Camp we like to provide you with a mix of photo shoot locations, horses, and styling so you walk away with a variety of images for your portfolio. We strive to utilize several different breeds of horses in a variety of themed photoshoots that often include two looks -- one more over the top stylized look and one more casual to really give you a diverse array of images for your portfolio.

4.  WORK WITH REAL CLIENTS.

The models at Summer Camp are my actual clients I am sharing with you. I believe having "real" people with their own horses is important so that you can practice directing and posing clients with their horses where it may not always come natural to them. And I believe having clients use their own horses is important to capture a more honest connection between the two. As much as we would love it, we know the majority of your future clients aren't going to be professional models in flowing gowns galloping across a beach but rather people who love their horses and want some beautiful photos in the pasture with them so our goal is to give you real clients to work with.

5.  BECOME PART OF A COMMUNITY SUPPORT SYSTEM.

Photography is often a pretty solo career but it is important to have a community of like-minded professionals to not only talk through struggles but also energize you creatively when you need it. Many photographers that have attended Summer Camp in the past stay friendly cheering each other on in their businesses and leaning on each other for support when struggling through creative blocks.
