After we get your session officially on the books, we start planning your session together. A questionnaire and planning guide will find it’s way to you by email to help me get to know you better and the vision you have for your senior portrait session.
As the session gets closer I will check in with you to make sure planning on your end is going smoothly and we will finalize any last minute details like your locations and our start times. Any time throughout, I am always available for questions and concerns....even if it is texting me from the dressing room while shopping for the perfect outfits for your session. The week before your session you will get a reminder in your inbox about the session and then on the night before or the day of your session you will get a text reminder from me to finalize time, meeting place, and any weather concerns if any.

On the day of your session we start by going over a plan for our time together and I will go through the wardrobe you brought to help finalize what outfits you will wear and when. I may also take a little time to also explore the location so I can determine what areas will make the best environment for the vision you have for your senior portraits.
During your shoot I will guide you through posing and interacting with your props so that you look natural and comfortable at all time. Sometimes things may feel awkward but trust the crazy lady holding the camera, she has your back and won’t make you look a fool! I want you to be really comfortable all throughout the session so if having a friend and hype girl there (other than me hyping you up) I highly suggest inviting a bestie to crack those jokes and bring out those REAL smiles. Expect to have FUN because I am not someone that does serious well.

After your session, I go to work obsessing over every detail so that the gallery you receive is everything you dreamed of. Every image you get back is hand-edited with care and because of that the editing process takes up to 5 weeks. I edit sessions in order of when they are photographed and because my work suffers if I jump around between sessions, I only edit one session at a time so I don’t typically give sneak peeks until I have started editing your session. Once your gallery is perfected and ready to share you will receive an email with the link to your online gallery along with download instructions and your print release. Your release allows for you to share digitally however you wish as well as print on your own up to 8x10 size. Larger prints, wall art, and albums can be ordered through your gallery or directly from me or you may purchase a full print release of your images if you desire to print on your own. Ordering prints through me and the professional print labs that I am partnered with guarantees you the best quality to display in your home.

Splitting your session over two dates is very popular with most seniors for a good reason — it allows you more flexibility with your styling more diverse locations, allows for two different times of year options, and it helps ease the stress of working with pets.

Booking senior portraits is often a great reminder that your family portraits may also be a little out of date so this add-on is perfect to grab some family photos while you already have me there! This add-on includes an extra 20 minutes dedicated to family photos and you will get at least 20 images on top of the full senior gallery.

Once you are ready to reserve your session simply reach back out to me with the package and add-ons that best fit your desires as well as some dates or the time of year you are interested in.
Together we will decide on a date, time, and location for your session and then you will receive a session agreement and invoice via email to finalize your booking. All sessions do require a signed session agreement and non-refundable deposit to secure the time on my calendar.

Spring sessions have beautiful flowering trees and luscious green grasses. Late April to early May is typically the best time for Spring portraits when everything is coming into bloom. If a spring session interests you and you only wanting Spring pictures, you should be reserving your session date in January. Please keep in mind your yearbook deadlines as most deadlines are around the winter break. In that case you will want to boo your session for the end of your Junior year rather than end of senior year.
Summer is the most popular time due to the fact school is out of session and the warmth makes everyone happier as long as the humidity stays low. The best time for a summer session is June to early July because it’s not too hot and everything is still full of life. If summer is your first choice, I recommend snagging a spot quick in January as dates do go fast!
Fall is my favorite time of year to shoot with all the rich colors with the changing of the trees. However, fall is also a very popular time and since it gets dark quicker, expect session times needing to start earlier in the day. Iowa folks, if you are seeking those changing leaves you would want a session in the later half of October. Prime fall dates are normally full by March each year.
Winter is one I have a love-hate relationship with because I love the bright, fresh snow but I don’t like the cold. But don’t worry, I will get bundled up to have a snow day with you! Because winter weather doesn’t like to play by the rules I keep a waitlist for fresh snow sessions so if winter suits your fancy get on the snow waitlist around October. Once fresh snow is on the ground, I contact those on the waitlist in the order they signed up.

The locations you choose for your senior portraits should reflect the overall vision you have for the finished portraits.
Answering these questions can help narrow down some options...What kind of places make me happy? Am I a city mouse or a country mouse? Where are my favorite places to hang out? Wherever you choose, it should be somewhere you are comfy and don’t mind getting at little silly at if needed. :)
I like to remind everyone that you don’t need the perfect locations to get perfect photos. I am known for taking clients so pretty odd places and getting them into some different situations to get some killer shots.. In the end, you are the focus here, not the surroundings you are put into.

Whether it is sports equipment, tractors, trucks, an instrument, awards, or your best fur-friend — it is important to include the things that matter to you most in your senior portraits.
Props can be as big or as little part of your senior portrait experience. Pets, especially horses, are kind of what I am known for and not to toot my own horn or anything, but I am pretty dang awesome at it! After 15 years in the business I have pretty much covered all different pets from llamas to iguanas in senior portrait sessions!

I always suggest 2-3 months in advance is best to not only secure a date on my calendar but to give you time to prepare. June-October are the most popular months so I suggest if you would like one of those to snag them by April. Yearbook and school deadlines may also effect when you want/need to book by.

Because I only deliver a gallery of finished, hand-edited images the editing process may take up to 5 weeks however I am willing to work with deadlines if you need photos by a certain date. Depending on the requested turnaround time, rush fees may apply.

There is no distance I won’t go for an epic photo session!
first 50 miles within 50138 is complementary
Travel between 51-200 miles is charged at a rate of $1.00/mile one way
Between 201-400 miles is a flat fee of $500
401+ miles within the US is a flat fee of $1000
Travel fees are required at the time of booking. If multiple clients book in one trip/location the fee may be split between clients and partial refund will be issued after all sessions are complete on the trip.

A non-refundable deposit is required to hold your session on my calendar along with a signed session agreement and it secures you a make-up session in a timely manner in the event we need to reschedule due to unfavorable weather or uncontrollable circumstances. Deposit fees are $250+ depending on your session location and package selection. This deposit goes toward your total session investment.

I completely understand that mother nature has a mind of it’s own and for that I only book limited number of sessions each month so there ample dates available for rescheduling. Because the forecast can change a lot over just a few days I don’t make any final call on weather until we are within a day or two from the session.
If your session is over 200mile from my home zip code I do ask that you are available the day before and after your session if possible for possible weather changes.

In the event that the client needs to reschedule for any reason a notice of 2 weeks is required for any non-emergent reasoning to avoid forfeiting the deposit. Reschedules must happen within one year of the original session date, failure to reschedule within one year will result in termination of contract and I retain the non-refundable deposit.
In the event that client wishes to cancel session for any reason, a Cancellation Agreement must be signed and I retain the non-refundable deposit. Item description

YES! Show those images off!! I just ask that you do not add any filters or do additional editing to the images that would change the integrity of the art I created for you.
Please take a good look at my portfolio and make sure my editing style fits what you are wanting for your finished photos so no additional edit is needed

I completely respect my clients wishes and work with several clients that wish to have their images kept offline. When you are signing your session agreement there is a section regarding this and you can select to keep your photos totally private.

As much as I would love to provide you with the highest quality of print products through my partnered professional labs, I do not require you to purchase from me. The print release included in all packages allow for you to make your own prints up to an 8x10 size with an option to purchase a higher resolution release if desired to do your own printing.
Please note if you choose to print the photos on your own I cannot guarantee the quality of prints you receive as most consumer labs use lower quality paper and inks which effect the print quality.

Yes! If a studio portion of photos is something you desire please make me aware of that ad we can secure studio time as well for your session. There is a studio rental fee of $75 required if adding the studio onto your session and studio set ups are only available in Des Moines.
